Photography Studio in Atherstone

New Photography Studio Now Open in Atherstone

We are proud to announce that the new Philip Charles Photography studio is now open in Atherstone, Warwickshire.

As a little bit of background, Philip Charles Photography was founded nearly 10 years ago by Phil, and was joined by wife Vicky in 2015. Based in Tamworth, tucked away on a farm, our studio was a little tricky to be found. The studio was small, but great for what we did, taking photographs. Over time, the studio became busier, which was awesome, but we soon outgrew the space and needed to find larger premises.

So here we are, in our new studio in the lovely market town of Atherstone, just outside Tamworth. The shop was originally a hairdressers, so everything had to be stripped out and redesigned. Walls have been built, flooring has been laid, and goodness knows how many gallons of paint we have gone through! It took 2 months of late nights, blood, sweat and tears, but it was worth every minute.

We now have:

Dressing Room

Client Area and Image Viewing Room

The Studio

We do all types of photography including large family groups, newborn, babies, professional headshots, pets, products etc… Whatever you need photographing, we can do it.

For all enquiries you can call Phil and Vicky on 01827 215 707, drop into the studio at 128 Long Street, Atherstone or fill in the enquiry form. We look forward to hearing from you.

Photograph Restoration

Damaged Photograph Restoration

A customer popped into the studio recently enquiring about our Photograph Restoration service. He brought along a 50 year old photograph that had unfortunately been damaged.

The photograph held a lot of sentimental value, therefore you can appreciate how upset he was with the damage. A piece of the photograph had been ripped off, but luckily he had the piece. We gently applied the photograph and damaged piece to our equipment and got to work with the restoration.

We are all really pleased with the outcome, especially our customer. So much so, he left us this review “Restoration of damaged 50 yr old photo. Phil has done excellent repair looks better than original . Recomend for all photo work…”

Here are the before and after images.

If you need any old or damaged photographs restored, please contact us on 01827 215 707 or complete the below enquiry form and we will call you back.

Hen Party – Makeover & Model Experience

On Saturday 21st November, we welcomed Bride-to-be Carly and her Bridesmaids in to the studio for a Makeover & Model Experience. Carly’s bridesmaids had arranged the experience as part of their fun Hen day/party activities. The girls day started with us at 10am, which of course had to include the traditional ‘Bucks-fizz’ and pastries. Once Clare from Enhanced Makeup, had provided the glitz and glamour, the Hens stepped out in front of the camera to complete their experience. Lots of fun and laughter was had.

Below are a few of the final images. We would like to wish Carly well for her future as she starts the next chapter of her life.

If you would like to discuss booking a Makeover & Model experience, please contact us.

Graduation Time – all ready for BIG School

This has been a very busy week indeed, we had the pleasure of covering the pre-school graduation ceremonies at Footsteps Nurseries in Tamworth and Lichfield. Making the experience extra special to us was our son and daughter graduating with their friends, ready for BIG school in September.

The kids looked fabulous in their gowns and were so proud to have their photograph taken. All the parents were there for the ceremony – not a dry eye in the room (glad I had plenty of tissues) – as they sang us songs and the Footsteps staff read out tear jerking poems summarising their time caring
for our special ones.
We would like to wish every one of the graduates a brilliant first day at BIG school, and don’t forget your special magic dust to keep you brave.

Footsteps parents, photos are still available by clicking here.

Comercial Photography

I have been hard at work in the Gym for most of this week! Unfortunately not working on reducing my wobbly bits but taking some great images for the health clubs new web-site.  Traveling to Wellingborough to work in Diana’s Health Club has been a real pleasure, all of the staff and PT team and coaches were fantastic,  and an asset to what a fantastic club this is.

I must say after learning that a photographer had already been on the job and not produced the results they were looking for I was a little apprehensive, but after day one realised that we were going to all meld together very nicely.  I was provided with a fairly comprehensive list of shots that were required, which I worked to thoroughly and added a good splash of my own ideas for good measure.

The results are sensational and I hope that they will really help to put this out standing Health and Fitness club on the map.

Product Photography = Increased sales

Over the last few months I have more than doubled my clients for product photography, whats that I hear you say?  Why would anybody waste their money ProductPhotography-2 on getting professional photo’s of something they are trying to sell?  The answer is simple to help sell the products of course.

With many people now manufacturing off shore in foreign lands the time for individual high quality product photography is now.  The only way to take aProductPhotography-1 step away from the competition is to show your product in the best light, from different angles and in lots of detail.  With at least 8 in 10 people making a purchase based upon what they can see rather than what they have read can you afford to have DIY or manufacturers images selling your goods.

Many online retailers such as Amazon are now trying to enforce rules on the quality of the images listed on their sites, and this is putting your own snapshots taken on a white sheet just not good enough.  It wont cost a fortune ProductPhotography-3and for most of our clients we provide a 48hr turn around, we offer a large range of back drops, invisible/ghost mannequin, 360 degree and modelled options.  So if you are serious about selling your products albeit online or in a catalogue than I urge you to get in touch and let us help you to grow your business.

FYI Kids business portraits

FYI Kids is a new and exciting app thats about to be launched, and if you haven’t heard about it yet (which I doubt) then it’s going to be BIG.  The directors of the company, Dee Bagnall and Sara Pritchard got in touch  regarding some business portraits, and I was more than willing to help them with some profile and and PR shots.

As with so many PR photographs I produce I was keen to get the ladies input on how they wanted to present them selves and it was quite clear that we had similar ideas on photographs.  After a few out fit changes and a few test shots we got under way to produce some great images.  Take a look below.  If you would like to find out more about FYI kids then please like the Facebook page by clicking here.

Please feel free to send an enquiry to me if you have any need for an updated portrait.

Actors Heads Shots – A Rising Star

This week saw me welcome to the studio Jason, who I have every belief is on his way to the stardom and what better way to launch his career than by updating his portfolio.  We have worked with several young people over the years and helped them to put together a good selection of images to help them stand out from the crowd.  Actors portfolios and head shots are the first hurdle into getting to casting sessions, along with a healthy CV we have had some great success in helping young actors.

I always try to get a broad range of photographs for younger actors, mainly to try and give them some scope on obtaining different roles.  If I can make someone seem a little older, a little younger, serious and happy then I feel this shows the individuals look in the most varied way.

Jason’s ambitions seem to lie in making it to the big screen, and has already stared in some west end productions.  All I can say is don’t forget me when you get to the top!  Good luck.

4 ways to improve your photo’s

4 ways to improve your photo’s….

I’m always asked by clients, friends and family how can I take better photo’s?  Most of the time they are not looking to taking professional photo’s they just want the snap shots they take to be better quality and content.  So I thought there must be tens of thousands of people that would like some answers to that question.

These tips apply to any camera, camera phone or even posh camera users.

1 – Composition (come now think about it)

Composing a photograph can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it but here are a few do’s and don’ts that should help you on your way to taking improved photographs.

DO – get down to eye level with the person you are taking photo’s of.

DO – think about whats in the background (look out for things growing out of heads).

DO – turn the camera on it’s side or into the upright position, try to fill the frame as best as possible.

DO – move yourself into a better position, standing 20yards away will leave to much blank space in the image.

DONT – Stand people against a wall, it’s not a prison mug shot, put some distance between them and the wall.

DONT – get to close with the camera when using flash, about 6 feet should be fine

DONT – let people photo bomb it can ruin a perfect shot that you may not be able to recreate.

2 – Be the centre of attention

This can be difficult if you are not very confident or are a little bit shy.  You need to capture the subject of you photos attention, they will never look at the camera if great aunt Dorris is on the other side of the room telling someone to smile for the photo.  Talk to people let them know that you are taking the photo, tell them to look at your camera and most of all get them to relax talk about them.  Children will always smile if you blow a raspberry, grown ups will always smile if you pay them a compliment. Simples.

3 – Know your camera

Or at least carry the manual.  Many cameras these days have loads of features that you will only use once or maybe not at all, and it can render your camera almost useless if you knock one of these settings on by mistake.  So either learn the features of your camera back to front, or more realistically carry the manual in your camera bag, handbag or back pocket.  Most camera instruction manuals are designed to be pocket friendly and have easy referencing sections.  In most cases you will even have a trouble shooting section.

4 – Keep it clean

Nope I’m not talking about smutty photo’s, I mean the camera.  Make sure your lens is clean, clean with a soft cloth or in an emergencies a tissue.  If your camera phone doesn’t seem to be quite as good as it used to be then take a look at the lens it’s probably caked with muck.  Even the most careful of camera users will still end up getting a dirty lens, there are many good cleaning products on the market but one of the best everyday lens cloths can be obtained for free from a local opticians (they may want a small fee), just stroll on in and ask for a new lens cloth they are normally very willing to oblige.
